We started our morning with some school, which we brought along to keep us busy on our long travel days. We are working especially on US geography. Following along on a map as we go from state to state is a good visual way for the kids to learn the states and their capitals. Daddy is helping the middle boys learn to follow a road map, enlisting them as navigators every so often.
It was really interesting today. The terrain really changed, especially as we went through Texas. I always knew it was flat. I'd even been there when I was young, but I certainly don't remember it being SO completely void of any kind of geographic interest. However, the cows there are really cool! They have those big longhorn cattle. That was fun to see. Unfortunately, we didn't get the camera out in time to photograph them. We did get a shot of these cool windmills. They are used to generate energy. There are lots and lots of them down here. Whole fields are filled with them.
So far we aren't really stopping for meals as I'd envisioned. Harold is a driven kind of guy. Point A to Point B, ya' know. So, we're doing lots of sandwiches. Today, I had the bright idea to let the kids each pick out a frozen microwave meal when we stopped at Wal-Mart. For 88 cents each, you can't beat it, cost-wise. Nutritionally speaking, PB&J would've been better, but the kids all enjoy getting to pick out their own dinner, so it was a fun change.
Something came loose on the bottom of the RV and was dragging on the ground, so we had to stop to get a part to connect it back up. Cody is a big help to Harold when it comes to fixing stuff. That has really been the only problem so far with the RV. We're really thankful for that since it was so minor. It took the guys about 15 minutes to get it fixed up.
Check out the list in the side bar to see what wildlife we are encountering along the way. I'm going to make a bet that the list will grow the most while we're at Yellowstone. I hope we run into a herd of buffalo!
Well, we're going to turn in for the night. I don't know if we'll be able to get internet access every day, but on days we are able, I'll continue to post updates.
