Mesa Verde, Colorado, was today’s destination. By that I mean that we spent most of the day getting from point A to point B again. Thankfully the scenery is pretty amazing. Jared & Matthew tried to figure out the binoculars.
We had made reservations to stay at the Mesa Verde State Park campground for tonight. We were looking forward to doing a little laundry and getting all the kids a really good shower, not just a hosing down. I also hoped to send out an update on here. However they were having trouble with some of their utilities and they also had a power line down. They offered us ½ price at the lodge or a refund. We decided to stay at a campground right outside the park.
We pulled in to the other campground (about 5 minutes from the other one) and the lady came out to greet & register us. She said, “Hi there. You need to know several things before you register. Our bath houses are out of order, the wi-fi is down, the laundry facilities don’t work, and the pool is being worked on.” We were quite underwhelmed to say the least! She finished by saying, “If you decide to stay, the cost is $20.00.” With the regular price being nearly $40.00 and then $3.00 per person on top of that ($30.00 more dollars for us!), we decided $20.00 sounded pretty darn good.
The kids got to ride their bikes and play at the playground. It was so good for them to get to stretch their legs and spread out a bit. I actually got to cook a hot meal for the first time on the trip. We were all ready for that!
Over all it turned out to be not such a big deal to not have the other facilities. We had enough clothes to last us several more days and we can hose the kids down & do spit baths for another day or so.
