Another Hot Afternoon Alternative...

Looking to expand our repertoire of activities for those hot afternoons while we were on vacation at Lake Cumberland, we checked out the local offerings and found that there was an orchard nearby.  So, we headed out to Haney's Orchard.  They had peaches and apples, as well as local honey and a slew of yummy-looking treats in their little cafe'.
We selected some apples and peaches; William chose a jar of honey (it had to have part of the comb); then we selected a few goodies from the cases.
There were these pretty fruit cake roll things.  (Not sure what they were called.)
And caramel apples.  There were also delicious apple turnovers, which were everyone's favorite!
We all had a few bites of everything then went out to the actual orchard for a few minutes.  We loaded the bus and headed out to a couple of antique stores where John Wesley looked for collectible Hot Wheels cars and  we all had fun spotting all the "Aunt Jemima"-type kitchen decorations.  We just discovered them this trip and found them interesting.
Who knew there were so many of those?  I couldn't decide if I found them endearing or offensive!  We all had a blast checking out all the interesting things and imagining what stories they carried but couldn't share.  Of course, we'd been watching "Pawn Stars" and "American Pickers" all week (since we don't have cable at home) so that made us all wonder about the history of the more interesting items.
We rolled back into the condo in time to watch a crime drama movie together that evening. Way to go picking a family movie, right???  What were we thinking letting the kids watch that???  It was intense for even me; and Lena kept saying, "I think I'm gonna have nightmares."  Evidently she was pretty certain of that because the next morning, she came to me announcing, almost disappointedly and with considerable surprise, that she, in fact, had NOT had nightmares and had slept very well!  I was relieved 'cause I really did think it might be a long night!
